Smoking, edibles, oils, sprays, lotions…  the legalization of medical and recreational use of cannabis in many states, makes this an issue EMS agencies can’t ignore. What rights do employers have in states that have legalized marijuana when a staff member tests positive? How do you recognize and respond to impaired staff members – when either drugs or alcohol causes the impairment? What if a staff member is using legal drugs to treat a medical condition? This session will break down the various laws and discuss the rights you have as an employer.  We’ll also discuss whether you should have a policy on marijuana use and what that policy should contain.
